Virginia Traffic Ticket Lawyer

One of the most common questions I get when people contact me about a regular parking ticket is whether it makes sense to hire a lawyer. I practice in a handful of courts around Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, King George and Caroline, but these tips should apply to any situation where you have a Virginia traffic ticket.

Can I afford a Virginia Speeding Ticket Lawyer? First of all, you should at least speak to a local, experienced, knowledgeable traffic lawyer who regularly handles cases like yours in the county where your ticket is pending.

You can find out a little about what they can do for you, what you really see in court, and what it would cost to hire a lawyer to help you. Without this basic information, you can’t even decide whether to hire a lawyer or not. If you don’t make that first call, you will never know what a lawyer will hopefully do and what it will cost.

You may be surprised to learn that a lawyer may be able to completely dismiss a case due to your visit to the driving school and that this may cost you a small amount of money. In my opinion, the decision as to whether or not to actually hire a lawyer for your ticket depends on a cost-benefit analysis. Do the benefits of hiring a traffic lawyer outweigh the costs? One thing that can help improve this balance is when the lawyer can handle the case without you appearing in court. Depending on where you are, hiring a lawyer can save a lot of time and money so that you can go to court yourself.

Virginia Speeding Ticket Possible Results The next question is whether you think you can appear before the judge and ask what you want. Some people just go in and plead guilty to a ticket hoping the judge will see their driving record and give them a break. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen. Many judges will probably only convict you for the parking ticket.

If you think you want to handle the case without a lawyer, you really need to be confident and ask the judge for the right thing. A local, experienced traffic lawyer knows what the normal judge is willing to do and what not. For example, in the Fredericksburg area, most judges do not reduce defective equipment fees, as in North Carolina.

If you go in and ask for broken equipment, you may just get a “no” from the judge. In some courts, it is better to ask the judge to send you to the driving school. However, some judges do not send you to the driving school based on the type of your license and the history of your driving license. This is another reason why a lawyer can really help you.
